David Eberlin reports on the Notts County Windsurf Open…
Light winds and the end of half term reduced entries but a good number of visitors and club members raced in the raceboard and Techno fleets. It was not only sunny but very hot at 25’C and very little wind. Officer of the day John Parr had difficulty setting a beat as the wind swung 45′ at irregular intervals, still it made for interesting racing. There were 5 short races in light winds. The event which took place at Notts County Sailing Club 12 miles east of Nottingham was part of the UKWA Midlands circuit.
Gerry Ball from Notts County took an early lead in the first race and won all except the second race, however that doesn’t tell the full storey as Bob Ingram was close in several races, and in the final race it was neck and neck as the lead changed hands on almost every leg, about 1ft separated them at the finish, with Gerry just winning.
Bob Ingram was second in the last three races and Mick Steer won the race boards with ease. Russ Townes and Jason Aldred where often swapping places but it was Russ’s experience that paid off as he finished third overall.
In the Technos Luke Raistick won every race with Robert Griffiths and Cameron Coghill trading places further down the fleet Robert winning by a few yards on the final race. Alice Butts won the 5.8 Technos.
