The local windsurf and kitesurfing community of Hunstanton, Norfolk, are deeply saddened to report the loss of Sean Sands. Sean was a friend to everyone on and off the water at Hunstanton Sailing Club.
Sean enjoyed both windsurfing and kitesurfing. A statement from Hunstanton Sailing Club follows.
Sean was a very special person. Living his life to the full. Our thoughts at this tragic time are with his family in particular his children, Molly, Harry and Emily.
Official Hunstanton Sailing Club statement:
At approximately 3:30pm on Saturday 7th March, Sean Sands, a long standing Hunstanton Sailing Club member got into difficulty while kitesurfing in the sea at Hunstanton. Sean lost control of his kite and for reasons not known to us yet, was unable to trigger his emergency quick release. Fellow club members and kite surfers were immediately on the scene to try to help Sean and the RNLI were called straight away. Tragically, despite the best efforts of everyone including the RNLI, coastguard and the air ambulance Sean did not make it.
Sean was a hugely popular character and someone who made everyone feel like they were a close friend. Hunstanton Sailing Club have lost a true brother, a friend to so many and one of life’s genuinely effervescent characters. Our thoughts and condolences are with Sean’s family at this terrible time.
