It was an action-packed day today at the Lanzarote Costa Teguise PWA Grand Slam 2005 as the Super X fleet got down to business in 15 to 20 knot winds. Both men and women completed two rounds, bringing victory to Matt (US-10, Tabou/Gaastra) and Kevin Pritchard (US-3, Starboard/MauiSails) and historic wins to Junko Nagoshi (J-11) and Karin Jaggi (Z-14, F2).
As the first men’s round came down to the final, it was a showdown between Cyril Moussilmani (F-71, Fanatic), Taty Frans (NB-9, Starboard/MauiSails), Nik Baker (K-66, Mistral/North), Robby Swift (K-89, JP/Neil Pryde), Matt Pearch (K-16, F2), Kevin Pritchard (US-3, Starboard/MauiSails), Matt Pritchard (US-10, Tabou/Gaastra), Peter Volwater (H-24, F2), Victor Fernandez (E-42, Fanatic) and Orjan Jensen (E-19, North).

At the first jump, Jaggi went down leaving the door open for Nagoshi who took the lead. Following in her wake were Iballa and Daida Moreno, van der Valk and Alba. After the second jump and buoy, Nagoshi was still in pole position and consolidated her lead on the final leg to the finish, where Super X history awaited her. Try as they might, the pursuing fleet couldn’t catch her and Junko Nagoshi (J-11) won the first women’s Super X round. Second place went to Iballa Moreno (E-63, Mistral/North), third to Karin Jaggi (Z-14, F2), Femke van der Valk (NB-05, F2) took fourth and Daida Moreno (E-64, Mistral/North) claimed fifth place.

Rounding buoy # 1 in the top slot was again Cyril Moussilmani, followed by Kevin Pritchard. Peter Volwater came round the corner in third place, but went down in his duck jibe. Robby Swift and Matt Pritchard took advantage and went after Moussilmani and Kevin Pritchard. No one made any mistakes in their obligatory forwards nor at the second jump and after the scrimmage at the second buoy, it was still Moussilmani who headed for the finish line in first position, followed by Matt Pritchard, Robby Swift, Kevin Pritchard and Nik Baker. Moussilmani was looking good as he was speeding towards victory enjoying an impressive lead. But disaster struck as the Frenchman went for a late spock. Moussilmani went down and Matt Pritchard stayed cool as ice and landed a perfect spock, keeping up his speed and overtook Moussilmani to take first prize. Moussilmani did manage to recover fast enough to secure second place before Kevin Pritchard, Nik Baker and Robby Swift who came in fifth.
The second round women’s final was between Karin Jaggi (Z-14, F2), Iballa Moreno (E-63, Mistral/North), Daida Moreno (E-64, Mistral/North), Nayra Alonso (E-4, Fanatic/Severne), Silvia Alba (E-67, Tabou/Gaastra), Junko Nagoshi (J-11), Marie Edlund Tjernberg (S-166, F2/North), Astrid Muldoon (F-2, JP/Neil Pryde), Yolanda Freites de Brendt (V-26, Fanatic/North) and Femke van der Valk (NB-05, F2).
