Lars Gobisch dominates in the Wave-Freestyle-Final at the Windsurfing EC Westerland/Sylt
+++ Westerland / Sylt (Germany). Onshore 5 to 6 Bft. ensured spectacular windsurfing
entertainment for the thousands of spectators at the Brandenburger Strand on
the second day of the Windsurfing Euro-Cup on Sylt. Already at the skippers
meeting it was obvious that there would be only one possible discipline today:
Wave-Freestyle!
The elimination last over the whole day and the finals took place in over 2
meter high waves. Four German Racers were able to fight their way through into
the finals: The German record champion Bernd Flessner (GER-16, F2, Neil Pryde)
From the island Norderney was one of them. He was joined by the international
German Champion of 2001 Lars Gobisch (GER 800) from Kiel. The two experienced
competitors were challenged by the young talents Klaas Voget (GER 4, Fanatic,
Arrows) from Kiel and und Normen Günzlein (GER 186, RRD, Neil Pryde) from
Scharbeutz).
Several thousand spectators followed the final although rain showers were coming
in from time to time. In the difficult onshore conditions one routinier was
succeed at the end: Lars Doc Gobisch the doctor from Kiel was dominating
in the end with a fireworks of spectacular wave rides, Loops and Freestylemoves.
Klaas Voget and Norman Günzlein were also able to take advantage of the
typical Sylt conditions and got second and third. The German windsurfing legend
Bernd Flessner had to accept a forth place in the Jury dicision.
For the weekends the forcast continues to predict good windsurfing conditions.
For Saturday the race committee plans to run the long awaited discipline Slalom.
