Guy Cribb- crowned UK Champion (Masters this time)
Having shown up to Hove UKWA Slalom event earlier this year with freeride sails and one slalom board, after an absence from slalom competition for eleven years, Cribby was as surprised as his competitors to win the event.
Able to only compete in two events in the UK this year, he was indeed lucky they both had wind, and in the recent UKWA event in Hayling Island, Guy was winning overall and if it weren’t for the penultimate race being abandoned at the finish line when a mark drifted, Guy would have been crowned UK Slalom Champion, and UK Masters Champion (over 35 years old) for 2008.
However Guy’s lack of training and some epic windsurfing by former UK Formula Champion Alan Jackson saw Alan win the last two races and take the event by a point! This gave them both equal points for the national title, but Alan wins overall on the tie break, as Guy did less events.
Still, being crowned British Masters Champion is not bad for Cribby after eleven years of coaching and not competing, and finishing second overall for the year on Neil Pryde freeride sails in the pro fleet also goes to show racing is not ‘cheque book racing’ but a tactical game of technique and training – one we think will be pretty huge in the UK for 2008. Congratulations Cribby!
INtuition Extreme Surf Gods in Hawaii!
Guy Cribb’s renowned learn to wave sail courses ‘Surf Gods’ have gone one better. Annually Guy runs an ‘Extreme Surf Gods’ course in search of the world’s best wave sailing. Last year was the inagural year in Cape Town scoring ten days of full on conditions that left the INtuition guests on a major high, but for 2008, Cribby is inviting guests to Hawaii, with the course aim of developing his guests skills enough during the week to wave sail at Ho’okipa, with Jason Polakow!
This unique trip is a once in a lifetime event that’s already nearly full with INtuition regulars. To find out more please email [email protected] Minimum standard is prior wave sailing experience, since the course is aimed at advanced windsurfers wanting to improve their wave sailing with loops, bigger waves and aerials! This is probably the highest level windsurfing course on the planet, so what better place to run it than the Mecca of windsurfing, Maui.
There are rumours in the pipeline of a chance to win a free place too- watch this space!
