Josh Angulo CV-1, Wave World Champion in 2003 and 2009, recently became part of the Point7 team, which proved a surprising decision to many. After many successful years on the wave tour, Josh switched to slalom racing and last year finished in 9th place in the world rankings.
So you prefer to work with young and motivated?
The boys of the Black Team have a lot of passion and are very focused on their working and humble, the team for me is the highest level. There is a beautiful environment, the product is great and these are all factors that motivate me a lot.
How long have you know Andrea Cucchi?
I’ve know Andrea for many years, he was always busy on race Formula and Slalom, while I was on the wave tour. When I started too do Slalom we became friends, everyone that knows Andrea knows he is a good guy and I think his has one of the best teams right now.

You have decided to terminate your relationship with Gun Sails before having a new sponsor for sails?
I was discussing with Gun Sails to renew my contract, but we did not reach an agreement, so I decided to quit the team and I was without work, without sponsors … After that Andrea contacted me to start talking about a possible collaboration. From the start there was a very strong feeling among us, and we both wanted to work together, so we reached an agreement and are very happy, the sails are good!
At the same time you also had offers from other sailmakers?
I talked to some other brands, but very little! In truth I am not one that runs behind the brand, I do not feel the need to do this work anyway because I already won two world titles in wave, I’ve won all the big competitions such as Cabo Verde, Hawaii. Instead I want to keep doing slalom I have not yet reached the level I want. So, after the exit from Gun Sails I was not really looking for something. Then Andrea got in contact and I knew it would be great, we both understand windsurfing in the same way.
Will you be involved in the development of the Black Sail?
At present, only Andrea can answer this question, I have just joined the team and I want to give my contribution with humility. It’s definitely not my intention to say what to do and not do, but I can understand and give my impressions of how the sail works. On the other hand is Andrea, who has much experience and puts so much work and passion in the brand alongside Claudio (Mancini Badiali).
What are your goals for 2012?
My personal goal is to get myself in shape, both physically and mentally. I believe that when they are in top form I can win the title. It is a dynamic system, in order to win you need a strong team with a good development but also with people who can do office work to perfection. Normally people do not realize this, the results come thanks to the team behind the scenes, as here in this office for Point-7 with Andrea, Francesco, and Alberto. If all works well then you can stay on top.
So I want to integrate myself as best I can in their system to bring something new and even though we all do our best things go well and we will do some good results.
After winning two world titles in wave, why did you decide to become dedicated to slalom?
When I was young I lost on a few occasions, I was not very serious, and I dedicated myself to wave because it was what I wanted to do. The slalom was not fun for me, I lived on Maui and the waves were the only things that interested me. When you grow up and live somewhere else in the world you can really see how beautiful it is to do slalom. Especially in the competition there’s a lot of adrenaline, and I am a born competitor, it is in my blood. I have no interest in continuing to compete in the wave, because I’ve done that, have already reached the top and for me it’s okay. I won it once and that was enough for me, then I won again and again which was even better. Now I will also win a title in the slalom.
I also have other jobs, like my centre in Cabo Verde and my brand, but also is competing for a job and I need to work, I love it and I need it for my family.
