Better conditions in Rhosneigr this morning - 4.7-5.0m for most and waves around head high. An early start saw the pro single completed with a victory to Adam Lewis over Phil Horrocks and then Andy Chambers.
We are now straight into the pro double. Waves are harder to find now as the tide has pushed up, but should improve again as the tide starts to drop now. 2 jumps and 2 waves to count and 15 minute heats...
9:15 - First round of the pro double and its Thorpe vs Cox. Very tricky conditions with the waves not having much steepness about them with the high tide. Cox goes through. He will face King next...
9:30 - King vs Cox. King is on a 5.3 and 102 board which he says is good for getting the jumps, but he's having to work hard in the rides. Cox looks to be on a 5.0m and 95. Both are getting rides and jumps but it looks a struggle as the waves are lacking steepness. That looked a close heat, but James Cox takes it.
9:50 - James Cox gets a heat break to recover and in the meantime, the first round of the amateurs will run. Its a 4 man heat with Bennett, Waite, Campion and Millard...But 5 minutes in and the heat is cancelled due to a lull in the wind and the lack of workable waves.
10:00 - Pro's are going to be given a break until conditions improve and the amateurs will be re-run with no jumps...just 2 rides to count.
10:05 - We are on again with the second amateur heat (the first was cancelled and will be re-run). We have Smith, Marke, Cude and Meldrum competing now. They are getting rides, but it's looking tough in the lighter wind. No one really planing on the way out and then having to ride in cross on and underpowered is never easy, but the better riders are still shining through. Smith and Meldrum advance.
10:25 - It's the re-run of the first amateur heat now featuring Bennett, Waite, Campion and Millard. Conditions are looking pretty similar...Marginal planing 5.0m/ 5.3m and some head high waves, but still lacking a bit of steepness. The torrential rain has subsided though and we are starting to see....the sun!
10:40 - The wind is continuing to drop as we near the end of this amateur heat. Next up will be the first ladies heat and then the amateur final.
10:45 - Bennett wins that amateur heat with Waite in second. Now ladies heat 1 with Guest, Bibby-hilder, Cuow and Greensmith. There are 7 ladies in total, there will be a second ladies heat afterwards to contest the finals line up.
10:55 - Bibby is stand-out in this heat so far. She looks to be on bigger gear, so is able to catch more waves and has a really good and aggressive style on the wave. Greensmith missed this heat, but the generous people at the BWA are letting her compete in the next ladies heat instead!
11:00 - Bibby and Guest go through in that first ladies heat. Amateur final up now.
11:10 - The wind almost loos to have increased a little bit (contrary to the forecast), which has lit things up a little more now.
11:20 - Its wall to wall sunshine now. The amateur final has just finished (no results through yet) and the second ladies heat is about to run with Hagn, Ince, Kellett and Greensmith. Wind is pretty stable - on and off planing on 5-5.3m's. The tide is stating to drop now, which is making the waves a little smaller but getting a bit more steepness into them again.
11:30 - Next up will be the masters.
11:45 - Kellett and Hagn advance.
Sorry that we had to cut off the updates there. There was an incident that stopped things for a while. The event resumed afterwards and we will bring you a full report and pictures on how it panned out.
