4. Comparing a freeride board now, with one from say 10 years ago, what are the major improvements/benefits to the rider?
SW. Freeriders are much more user friendly now. Shapes are more compact today. They offer a wider range of use, are easy and fast. A wide range of different constructions offer something for every budget and every level.
OH. I think the wide and thin new freemove category boards are simply more fun to sail compared to traditional (often a bit longer) boards. They feel more exciting and for me this is absolutely the most important thing you can improve – the fun factor. Our version is also super fast.
TY. Efficiency: wider wind range, more power on the bottom end, higher top speeds, more high wind control. You basically can enjoy freeriding on the same board more often.
FG. The most clear one is the length and along with that everything got tuned up for efficiency, today every sq cm and gram in our board is doing something. Fins also had a good share of the evolution, adding to the planning, upwind, speed and control so the board was able to focus more on the comfort of the rider.
WG. They are just better in all aspects. Planing, comfort, manoeuvrability , performance, trim, and fittings. I guess it’s like driving an 10 year old car. The old one is not necessary much slower but to reach the speed and driving it for a while you will experience huge differences in the complete package.
FV. More time on Water and more range.
