Homegrown Talent – 6 Up and Coming Riders To Watch Out For

Homegrown Windsurfing Talent - 5 Riders To Watch Out For

Matt Cox

Sail Number: 942

DoB: 14/10/1994

Number of years windsurfing: 10

Best Result: Second at British Universities College Sport (BUCS) in the advanced racing.

Favourite event:

Any of the SWA tour stops this year. All of the events have been great fun with days of decent windsurfing in varied conditions from on shore mush at marazion to freestyle paradise at Aussie Kiss and racing madness in weymouth at BUCS. Also included within these events are big nights of bad fancy dress and worse drinks in university cities all over the country.

Windsurfing plans for 2014:

My plan for this year is to come in the top 5 in the amateur slalom fleet. Travel around Cornwall and the rest of the UK hopefully scoring some decent sessions to improve my wave sailing. I’m also planning to compete in the BWA events in Tiree and Cornwall.

Why I love windsurfing:

I love windsurfing as it’s the only sport that allows you to harness nature in such a pure way. It is also such a diverse sport that has so many different variations meaning that everyone can find an aspect that they enjoy.

Future Aims:

My future aims include competing in the pro fleet for the UKWA slalom, the full BWA wave tour and eventually the PWA for both waves and slalom.
