Number of years windsurfing: About ten I think.
My best result is probably being overall SWA Champion this year. Or getting third in the BWA amateurs in Tiree last year.
Tiree last year has been my favourite event so far, it’s a long way to go but that made it exciting to go somewhere totally new. That combined with it being my first BWA event made it all really new and the people on the BWA are really cool so it was basically just one big adventure. It was either windy or wall to wall blue sky with enough surf to play with.
My windsurfing plans for 2014:
things are about to get rather serious at uni so I’ll try and do as much of the SWA and BWA as I have time and money for. At the moment I’m in Tenerife for the summer so I just want to have as much fun as possible really and hopefully learn some new stuff too.
I love windsurfing because:
it’s just the best feeling ever. It has so many different variations even within single disciplines that you just can’t get bored. It takes me to some really awesome places. I would not have considered a holiday to the Hebrides in October unless I was a windsurfer but I went, and it was epic. Going wavesailing with my friends is my favourite thing to do, filling the van to the roof with kit and going to Cornwall, sleeping on George Simmonds’ floor. Windsurfing is so much more fun with people there to laugh when you crash and cheer if you actually manage to land something.
My future aims are to try and win the BWA amateurs at some point in the next few years, and get into the pro fleet for waves. Other than that I just want to keep enjoying it. If I ever feel like I’m being forced to go windsurfing then something’s gone wrong.
