Jo Wright
I also spoke to Jo Wright, a Tushingham team rider and fellow Student Windsurf Association committee member, who spent the month of August in Moulay in her first experience of Moroccan windsurfing.
Hi Jo, how have the conditions been over the last month?
The most consistent wind I’ve ever had, I’ve only used 3.3- 4.2 sails, with male friends on 3.7-4.7. In terms of the waves, the second week was absolutely incredible – logo to mast high waves all week. It has really improved my level to have consistent conditions like this. The rest of the time the smaller waves were great for jumping and occasionally up to shoulder high riding.
What sort of level of windsurfer would you recommend to Moulay?
Anyone that has a bombproof waterstart and really wants to progress into wavesailing. It’s also suitable for good wavesailors wanting to increase their level further.
How much did it cost to go to Moulay?
I paid approximately £400 return with 2 windsurf board bags for flights, plus £100 for transfers. Accommodation and food adds up to £20-£25 a day. A few extras and excursions to Essaouira didn’t break the bank, and the long days of good conditions and the quiet atmosphere means it’s easy to stick to a budget.
Lastly, how would you rate your trip overall, and would you consider coming back?
I would definitely come back, the trip has been great and the locals are super friendly. It is a really nice lifestyle here, everyone is really helpful and you improve loads.
After such a good experience, I am sure we will be back in Moulay again and I would like to thank Jo, Boujmaa and Soufian for their time, Bruno and Cecilia for their hospitality and all the boys of Moulay that made my time on and off the water so enjoyable.
