Phil Horrocks

Phil Horrocks – 2nd at the Tiree Wave Classic 2015

“We’re all done here on Tiree. We waited around and eventually got some wind and waves. The waves were head high for the final and double elimination, with the odd bigger one, but they all had a lot more punch about them than the other day; there were some nice little heavy bowling sections; that sort of thing.

“I was still on my 86 Pocket and my 5.7 Manic, but it was enough to be planing on the outside. We had 15 minute heats, so that gave us enough time to catch some good ones. Things went pretty smooth, I racked up some decent scores in the run up to the final, event the final was going well… I had the highest scoring wave but couldn’t back it up with a second set wave, just a smaller one. Ross sailed really well and had two solid waves in the final that put him on top, I just couldn’t quite match it this time.

“It’s still wide open going into Cornwall, I just hope we get some solid conditions and we can all show what were capable of. It’s been good to us in recent years and has delivered. Let’s hope there’s more to come, I think we’re due a really wild one! It would be good to see Gwithian maxing out and everyone out there charging!”

As it was a bit more onshore in the final and double elimination I really struggled for power on my 5.0! I was using the new JP Wave Slate 86 which was perfect on the slightly windier days but in general all my gear was a bit on the small side…”
