Pozo was completely going off today, with two meter sets rolling in and riders digging deep into their quiver bags for their 3.0 sails. Both the men’s and women wave contest were alternated throughout the day. First to venture out were the women wavesailors for the single elimination. In total survival conditions, the fleet was rapidly cut down to the final eight riders. In the first quarter final, Karin Jaggi (Z-14, F2) displayed strong waveriding and big loops to defeat Junko Nagoshi (J-11) and Iballa Moreno (E-63, Mistral/ North) threw big forwards and backloops to take out Frida Wiraeus (S-93). The second quarter final saw Nayra Alonso (E-4, Fanatic/ Severne) riding hard and looping her way into the semi final at the expense of Annemarie Reichman (H-98, Naish/ Naish) and Daida Moreno (E-64, Mistral/ North) pulled off forwards, a big backloop and went for the goiter in ultrawindy conditions, beating Ania Ostrowska (POL-00, Fanatic).
In the semi final, Iballa Moreno kept up her strong performance by taking out Karin Jaggi with a massive backloop and aggressive waveriding. Iballa’s sister Daida went big against Nayra Alonso with a huge backloop, a tabletop forward attempt and an all out double forward attempt. Alonso was ripping it up, but had to bow for Moreno in the end.
And so it was Moreno madness in the women’s wave final, Daida vs Iballa. Daida opened up on her sister with a big forward, while Iballa was riding in a good wave as the heat commenced. In the jump department Daida stuck a gigantic backloop, while Iballa landed a table top forward. Coming in, Daida launched into radical backside airs, as Iballa popped some frontside air on her waves. At the end of the heat, it was Daida who came out victorious, leaving Iballa with the silver.

The men’s wave single elimination got off to a flying start with the final sixteen riders going head to head in 3.6 winds and 2 meter waves. Kauli Seadi (BRA-253, Quatro/ Naish) knocked out Victor Fernandez (E-42, Fanatic) despite Fernandez’s double forwards and Pozo maestro Bjorn Dunkerbeck (E-11, North), wasn’t put off by Robby Swift’s (K-89, JP/ Neil Pryde) double forward in his face and advanced to the quarter finals. In a controversial heat, Antoine Albeau (F-192, Neil Pryde) beat Dario Ojeda (E-211, Quatro/ Gaastra). Ojeda initially went through, but the decision was later recalled because of a tabulation error. Ojeda did pull of one of the cleanest double forwards of the day. Vidar Jensen (N-44, North) was soaring again and terminated Greg Allaway (KA-38, Mistral/ North). Diony Guadagnino (V-69, Neil Pryde) went superradical with a twisted double pushloop attempt, but Nik Baker (K-66, Mistral/ North) managed to stay ahead of the Venezuelan with a frontside 360 and advanced to the final eight sailors. Kevin Pritchard (US-3, Starboard/ MauiSails) was flying high over the Atlantic, doing a big one footed backloops and strong waverides in his heat against Ricardo Campello (V-111, JP/ Neil Pryde). Campello landed a double forward with room to spare, but Pritchard advanced. Peter Volwater (H-24, F2) was on fire taking out Andy Wolff (G-9, Tabou/ Gaastra) with huge stalled forwards and a big double forward and Josh Angulo (US-11) demonstrated his skills with a slick backside wave 360 and his trademark onehanded backloop, knocking out Scott Mckercher (KA-181, Starboard/ Severne).
In the quarters Kauli Seadi went head to head with Bjorn Dunkerbeck, beating Dunkerbeck in his backyard with an incredible planning air chachoo. Antoine Albeau beat another local sailor, Vidar Jensen, with a solid double forward and went on to the semi’s. Nik Baker continued his winning streak with his impressive waveriding at the cost of Kevin Pritchard (US-3, Starboard/ MauiSails).
In the semifinal, Baker proved he has still got what it takes by taking out Peter Volwater with his vertical riding and perfect crazy pete’s. Volwater did squeeze out a double forward, but it was right after the horn. Kauli Seadi got into trouble with the Gran Canaria air traffic control with a enormous backloop against Antoine Albeau and went to the final to meet Baker.

In the losers’ final, Peter Volwater took third with a big double forward and high backloops. Albeau got fourth with his big pushloops and backside airs and a near double forward.
