The men wavesailors were the first to get wet today, finishing up the last heat of the second round, the third and fourth round in winds that had ‘eased off’ from the usual 3.7 and below to a more sailable 4.2/ 4.7 weather. In the last wave heats of the day Victor Fernandez (E-42, Fanatic) knocked out Xavier Huart (F-33, Mistral/ North) with a massive double forward with room to spare for a third rotation. Robby Swift (K-89, JP/ Neil Pryde) kicked off his heat against John Skye (K-57, F2) with a slick double forward, taking out his fellow countryman, who did pull off a double himself. Local hero Dario Ojeda (E-211, Quatro/ Gaastra) defeated another local rider, Orjan Jensen (E-19, North) with a controlled double forward and massive one handed backloop. Jensen was flying high as ever, but didn’t manage to take it this time. Marcos Perez (E-7) made the Pozo victory list complete by beating Greg Allaway (KA-38, Mistral/ North).

Kristoffer Living (S-80) was sailing strong today and knocked out Diony Guadagnino (V-69, Neil Pryde) in gusty conditions. Ricardo Campello (V-111, JP/ Neil Pryde) annihilated Jonas Ceballos (E-40, Fanatic) with a huge stalled forward, a clean air chachoo and a perfect double forward to finish things off. Julien Taboulet (F-100, JP/ Neil Pryde) was throwing his big tabletop forwards to knock out Andy Wolff (G-9, Tabou/ Gaastra) and Scott McKercher (KA-181, Starboard/ Severne) stopped Regis Bouron’s (F-300) impressive rise to the top with big backloops and tabletop forwards.

The women wavesailors got it on as well, mixed in with the men’s heats. Next up are women heats # 60 and 61: In heat 60 Ania Ostrowska (POL-00, Fanatic) takes on Silvia Alba (E-67, Tabou/ Gaastra) and Annemarie Reichman (H-98, Naish/ Naish) is up against Nina Tjernberg (S-165, North). Heat 61 features Frida Wiraeus (S-93) vs Uli Hoelzl (AUT-123, F2/ Neil Pryde) and Junko Nagoshi (J-11) against Yolanda Freites de Brend (V-26, Fanatic/ North). Uli Hoelzl scored the jump of the day in Pozo’s strong conditions with a high backloop attempt.

As has been happening for most of the week, the waves backed down during the day, prematurely ending both the men’s and women’s wave contest. And so it was back to the freestylers with the double elimination of round two for both the men and women. The women’s double is down to heat # 62, in which Ania Ostrowska (POL-00, Fanatic) faces Junko Nagoshi (J-11) and Yolanda Freites de Brend (V-26, Fanatic/ North) is up against Uli Hoelzl (AUT-123, F2/ Neil Pryde). Winners of that heat will have to take on Karin Jaggi (Z-14, F2) and Silvia Alba (E-67, Tabou/ Gaastra) in the next round. On the men’s side, next heat is also # 62. Antxon Otaegui (E-169, JP/ Neil Pryde) vs Jose Estredo (V-01, Fanatic/ North) and Marcilio Browne (BRA-105, Naish/ Naish) vs Victor Fernandez (E-42, Fanatic). All riders in heat 62 were in formidable form today, providing all the ingredients for a spectacular show. Whichever sailors take the heat face Kauli Seadi (BRA-253, Quatro/ Naish) and Nick Warmuth (US-36, Starboard/ Gaastra) in the next round.
