STIMOROL ENGADINWIND / IFCA FREESTYLE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – DAY 2

STIMOROL ENGADINWIND / IFCA FREESTYLE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – DAY 2

Pretty rough conditions were dominating today’s weather in Silvaplana. In the morning the mountain peaks were even covered with a thin snow mantle. The temperatures were throughout the whole day very low and instead of the desired maloja wind, a cold north wind was blowing through the valley.

After that the hope for up-coming wind throughout the whole day has not been given up and it even started to rain occasionally, the qualifier event Red Bull fly to the King of the Air had to be officially cancelled by the race management at 4 p.m. Meaning that unfortunately the kite happening had to be withdrawn after 9 heats without any results and winner of the sought-after air ticket to Maui.

The riders of the Euro Cup were vainly waiting for the wind as well today. The 79 athletes including 2 women are already today looking forward for an hopefully very windy and interesting competing day tomorrow. As clear favourites the fastest windsurfer of the world, Finian Maynard from the British Virgin Islands, Micah Buzianis USA, Slalom World Champion 2005 as well as previous World- and European Champion Antoine Albeau FRAU are considered. Together with the Swiss talents Mario Ballabio and Valentin Zwygart they will care for an exciting holding of this year’s Euro Cup. Naturally the two other Swiss masters in windsurfing Daniel Aeberli and Patrick Diethelm will be racing for the victory as well.

After tomorrow’s Euro Cup the event is going on on Wednesday with the highlights of the event, the IFCA Freestyle World Championships and the European Freestyle Pro Tour (EFPT). After about 20 years for the first time Windsurfing Championships are taking place in Switzerland again. The world’s best Freestyle Windsurfers are to battle for the coveted trophy of the World Champion. Besides one of the important stages of the European Championship title is taking place in the Engadine. On the occasion of the EFPT amazing freestyle moves and turns will be celebrated on the highest level by athletes such as Kevin Mevissen NED (European Champion 2003), Matheo Guazzoni ITA (European Champion 2004) or the leader of the current tour Andre Paskowski GER. From the Swiss sight it is very pleasant that the entire freestyle windsurf elite will be to see in the Engadine. Shooting star Pesche Vogt, Swiss Champion Daniel Äberli and the new World Champion Karin Jaggi will participate in an international and highly professional starting field. She has already arrived in Silvaplana. Will she reach her goal and win her 15th title as World Champion and within this her first title in her own country.

Also starting from Wednesday, again, the program is going to be completed by several acts in the event village as well as the already legendary parties. The world’s best acropilots of the slow flyers show again their outstanding abilities. Besides the opening-party in the Beach Club in Sils on Wednesday, August 17th, the party highlight will follow. On Saturday night, August 20th, takes place the Stimorol Engadinwind party on the Corvatsch, which has already gained cult status. DJ’s and special acts will transform the party night into an unforgettable happening where the crowd will be rocking with the world’s best windsurfers until the break of dawn.
