THE TIREE WAVE CLASSIC 2005
(and adventure sports activities)
The Isle of Tiree, Scotland
Saturday 15 – Saturday 22 October
“Some of the most dynamic sporting action you will see in the UK” –
BBC Sportscene
From 15 to 22 October 2005 The Tiree Wave Classic, one of the most
legendary events on the UK’s annual windsurfing calendar, returns to
the stunning island off the West coast of Scotland (often described
as The Hawaii of the North or The Land Below the Waves).
In the week long event extreme adrenaline fuelled action is
guaranteed as some of the World’s best sailors come together to brave
the full Atlantic furies of wind and waves off this remote and
exposed island to compete in freestyle, wave jumping and supercross
disciplines – The Triple Crown.
Every day sailors will tour the beautiful beaches on the Isle of
Tiree in order to take advantage of the best of the ever-changing
conditions. Last year’s winners John Skye and Charlie Connolly will
be defending their 2004 titles, but hot on their respective heels
will be Ben Proffitt and Louise Emery, together with some of the UK’s
top sailors desperate to take the hugely prized Tiree Wave Classic
crown.
Every day promises to be as good as any other but to see the best of
the action, chat to the competitors, experience the judging process
and take part in the best of the other adventure activities on offer
organisers suggest at least a two day visit.
Visitors and residents alike can rest assured that there is always
something happening on the island during the week of the event. The
Tiree Wave Classic Event village is located at the Tiree Lodge Hotel,
Gott Bay and will be running a whole host of adventure sports
throughout the duration of the event, the majority of which are free
to all.
Activities include, Blo Karts (sand yachting for all ages) run by Blo
Kart International, surfing tuition run by Clan Skates, surf kayaking
and impact zone activities (ie cliff jumping and gorge walking) run
by Hebridean Pursuits and windsurfing and kite surfing tuition run by
Tiree’s own Wild Diamond. Power boat trips are also available;
everything from a jetski to a 15 seater rib to a Zap Cat, the
official rescue boat capable of 50 miles an hour through the waves.
And for those looking for a wind powered trip there is sailing on a
Hobie Cat. Skippinish Tours will also be running boat and fishing
trips by arrangement.

Caledonian MacBrayne Ferries run a crossing once everyday from Oban.
However on Thursday 20 October, Cal Mac are offering a fantastic
opportunity to see the event and be back on the mainland within one
day. On this special crossing the ferry will be taking the southern
route via Mull and Fingals cave (condition dependent) – a tour not to
be missed. Details can be found on the Tiree Wave Classic website
www.tireewaveclassic.com by clicking on the Caledonian MacBrayne link.
The conditions at The Tiree Wave Classic always test the competitors
to the full so they are always in the mood to party at the end of the
day – everything from live bands to quiz nights to full on party
nights! The nightly entertainment laid on at The Tiree Lodge Hotel
and The Scarinish Hotel is legendary in the windsurfing calendar and
the hotels extend their welcome to all visitors to dine or drink
throughout the day and evening. To take advantage of the
entertainment opportunities contact the Tiree Wave Classic
Headquarters, in the Lodge Hotel from Saturday 15 – 23 October on
