Tandem sailing on the Gemini
Maui , April 9th 2006
Always searching for innovative concepts to satisfy the global market, Svein Rasmussen and Jim Drake from Starboard had to come up again this year with something even more fascinating. The company’s latest creation is the Gemini – an extraordinary tandem board that is easy to ride and that goes as fast as a short board. Tiesda You, shaper of the company, describes the board to us:
“Gemini is about tandem sailing. This is the first tandem in the world that is designed around a wide style shape. The wide shape allows the riders to use bigger sails and makes the board easier to catch the planning. The great thing about Gemini is that it is not only for two good windsurfers sailing together, but it is actually an excellent board for the beginners as they can go with someone experimented and be able to have their first taste of windsurfing. The teacher rides in the back controlling the board and the beginner rides on the front. Straight away, the beginner can put his feet in the straps holding on to the sail. That way, the beginners can obtain the sensation of planning instantly without having to learn all the basics. A single person can also use the Gemini by putting the sail into the center mast track and by using the fin in the most forward fin box.”
