Dahab rocks for youth freestylers
Eleven exhausted but elated windsurfers have returned from a full-on
week in Dahab at the Youth Freestyle Camp. This was the second Dahab
camp for keen freestylers run by Mark Sparky Hosegood, following the
hugely successful week last July.
The camp was hosted by Club Dahab, who provided the perfect venue, a
huge range of kit and a ready-made atmosphere. Specialist tuition was
provided by Andy Bubble Chambers, the UK Freestyle Champ, who was able
to put across the finer points of planing freestyle in a manageable way,
as well as demonstrating it with supreme ease and fluid style.
The guys on the camp (yes, they were all male: next time some girls are
required!) ranged in age from 14 to 18 and from some with basic planing
skills to experienced UKWA competitors. All of them went away with
loads of new techniques to work on – and a few bruises – but the camp
also included snorkelling on the reef, wakeboarding and a ‘youth vs.
experience’ volleyball tournament against a team organised by Peter Hart
and Dave White.
