ISA Speedsurfing Grand Prix Tour Kick-Off
The world’s fastest men and women are gathering at the historical Sotavento Beach on Fuerteventura to compete for the 25000 euro prize money and the first victory of this years Speedsurfing Grand Prix Tour.
With only ten days to go, nearly 100 competitors from 17 nations around the world have registered for this event.
All the big names as last years world champion Bjorn Dunkerbeck, double world record holder Finian Maynard and Antoine Albeau, currently seeming unbeatable in the PWA’s Slalom 42, are expected when the registration desk opens on the 21st of July.
Sotavento Beach has seen many Speedsailing competitions in the past decades, but never before so many sailors, professionals as well as amateurs were able to attend such a big event.
Fuerteventura is well known for its changing conditions, from perfectly flat water to uncontrollable waves. Everyone is hoping for good conditions this year combined with the famous strong winds of the southern part of the island.
With a 25000 euro purse the stakes are obviously high, but Fuerteventura’s party status in its turn is drawing loads of sailors and spectators to the event as well, setting the stage for an action packed week, on and off the water.
So everything is perfectly prepared for the Fuerteventura ISA Speedsurfing Grand Prix 2006. The official competitions will take place from Saturday, July 22nd to Saturday, July 29th. The closing ceremony with prize giving will take place on Saturday evening.
