TIREE WAVE CLASSIC – FINAL RESULTS

2006 Tiree Wave Classic

14th – 21st October 2006

Tiree Wave Classic 2006
The Tiree Wave Classic is over for another year.
This year’s competition, although affected by unseasonably light winds, saw some outstanding Wave Sailing at the Maze on the first day. On the strength of his performance that day Jamie Hancock has been crowned a worthy winner of the Tiree Wave Classic 2006 Pro Men’s Wave Sailing Competition, with Ruth Elliot winning the Ladies title.

The light conditions gave competitors and visitors alike the chance to experience the high-adrenalin water sports of the Wave Classic Event Village as well as the full on fun provided by event sponsors Corona Extra.
David Williams, chief executive of EventScotland, speaking at the event closing party congratulated all involved in the Tiree Wave Classic 2006 and committed to helping Tiree Wave Classic on to even bigger and better things in 2007.

The final results for the 2006 Tiree Wave Classic were announced last night at the event prize giving and closing party. Jamie Hancock was crowned Wave Sailing champion in an excellent and closely fought Pro Mens competition. Jamie narrowly beat Andy King (2nd), Phil Horrocks (3rd) and John Hibbard (4th).

In the Ladies Wave Sailing competition Ruth Elliot won out over Louise Emery. Ruth’s aggression on the waves saw her triumph in a competition where both sailors made excellent use of the conditions.

Friday night saw the closing party of the 2006 Tiree Wave Classic. The evening was a chance for competitors, crew, spectators and locals to all get together, really let their hair down and party.
Once the serious business of full-on Ceilidh dancing started evening soon became night and night soon became morning with barely time to catch your breath.
A great night to round of Wave Classic 2006.

Things kicked off with a selection of action shots from this years Wave Classic by full –time photographer (and part time quiz master) John Carter, followed by a short film of the highlights both on and off the water by the Wave Classic film crew.
Following an introduction by David Williams, chief executive of EventScotland was the formal presentation of prizes by the competition judges:

  • Pro Mens Wave Champion Jamie Hancock

  • Ladies Wave Champion Ruth Elliot

  • Corona Extra Extreme Move Phil Horrocks
With the Corona Extra flowing freely the crowd were treated to a performance by a specially formed Wave Classic ‘boy band’ and a very lively auction of 2 much sought after Corona Extra silk shirts.
