With a new title race open, and glory at stake, this exciting new location and its attractive €45K prize purse is guaranteed to attract the big hitters of the PWA’s exclusive Slalom 42 discipline.
Get ready to see the likes of 2006 World Champion Antoine Albeau (F-192 Starboard / NeilPryde), last year’s gutsy runner up Micah Buzianis (USA-34 JP / NeilPryde), racing stalwart Kevin Pritchard (USA-3 Starboard / MauiSails), world speed record holder Finian Maynard (KV-11 F2 / NeilPryde) and many many more, jostle for position in the toughest racing fleet on earth.
The event also marks the beginning of another series of cut-throat competition for the women’s fleet.
Reigning World Champion, and windsurfing’s undisputed all-round performer Karin Jaggi (F2 / North), is sure to face un-paralleled pressure from last years runner up Verena Fauster (F2 / Gaastra) and tactical race specialist Allison Shreeve (F2 / NeilPryde), who are bound to have raised their game in the off-season.
There will also be new threats from local competitors in both fleets, with specialists familiar with the location providing an added threat.
Ulsan, a metropolitan city in the south-east of South Korea, is a magnet for Asian windsurfers who visit it for its beach scene, and quality windsurfing conditions.
The Sea of Japan resort has hosted many regional events and can now boast winning full international PWA status.
The long white sandy beach of Jinha will doubtlessly reward the cream of pro windsurf racers with its favourable spring time trade winds and warm tropical waters.
