SAS ENVIRONMENTAL SURF FILM MOVIE GETS ITS FIRST SCREENING!

The Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) environmental surf film ‘View From The Greenroom’ gets it first viewing at Porthtowan’s Blue Bar in Cornwall on Friday 16th March.

The film, kindly supported by Quiksilver Initiative, was shot entirely on location in Scotland last October and features some amazing wave action.

Effectively the UK’s first environmental surf documentary, ‘View From The Greenroom’ examines the pollution issues of today through the eyes of SAS campaigners. Joined by Team Quiksilver, our international crew score barrel after barrel at some amazing new locations in Scotland, before breaking off to reflect on the dangers our coastline faces from poor shipping practices, the unregulated discharge of toxic chemicals, conveyor belts of litter travelling up on the Gulf Stream and the future threats to surfing from climate change. With a touch of humour we highlight these problems in true SAS style, with the help of top surfers Spencer Hargraves, Nathan Philips, Shaun ‘Skippy’ Skilton, Candice O’Donnell and Aussie WQS star Glen ‘Micro’ Hall.

Skits include drunken skippers crashing remote controlled boats, gender confused surfers shopping for toxic-free household cleaning products, and ominous warnings from a scientist in a radioactive suit at Sandside Bay!

There’s also plenty of useful tips and actions anyone can undertake to help us preserve our ocean playgrounds for the future, such as lift sharing to the beach, turning the standby light off your TV after watching a surf DVD and changing your electricity to a renewable energy supplier.

Best of all anyone can get a copy of the 45 minute film when it goes out cover mounted on issue 163 of Wavelength Magazine, due out in shops on March 23rd.

We’ve also 20 places available free to SAS members to come along and check it out on Friday night. These places will go on a first come, first served basis.

If you’re interested in getting along email [email protected]saying ‘Yes I want to be there to see ‘View From The Greenroom’ on Friday night’ plus you’re name, address and membership number. We should not receive you’re email before 09:00 on Tuesday 13th March (max.2 places per person).

Andy Cummins, SAS Campaigns Officer says: “If you’re going to watch one surf film in 2007 make sure it’s this one! And if you’re not a member of SAS then please help us with our campaigns by joining after you watch this film – membership costs as little as £1 per month!”
