ALLEGRO.PL CUP, LEBA, POLAND – DAY 2

The second day of the ALLEGRO.PL CUP brought perfect conditions for the
competitors. With wind speeds between 10 and 17 knots Race director Bruno de
Wannemaeker was able to run not less then four Racings. In the afternoon the
wind even picked up to enable also a complete slalom elimination. The Racing
brought a spectacular head to head fight between Steve Allen (AUS-0, Tabou,
Gaastra) from Australia and Gonzalo Costa Hoevel (ARG-3, F2, Neil Pryde)
from Argentina. In the Slalom Arnon Dagan (ISR-1, Fanatic, Neil Pryde) from
Israel was able to dominate in front of Ross Williams (GBR-83, Tabou,
Gaastra) and Steve Allen.

The day started with racing. In 10 to 13 knots the Argentinean Gonzalo Costa
Hoevel was able to take the event the lead with a bullet. Favorite Steve
Allen managed to achieve a second in front of Ross Williams and Andrea
Cucchi (ITA-1, Starboard, Point-7) . The top three were followed by the
three youngsters from Italy, Poland and the Netherlands, Alberto Menegatti
(ITA-456, F2, North Sails) , Michal Polanowski (POL-16, Starboard, Severne),
and Adrian van Rysselberghe (NED-2, JP, Neil Pryde).

In stable conditions the next race was started. This time Steve Allen was
able to strike back. With a bullet he took the event lead. The Polish racing
legend Wojtek Brzozowski (POL-10, Starboard, Severne) celebrated a great
return to the competition scene with a second place. Gonzalo Costa Hoevel
confirmed his great performance with a third place. Alberto Menegatti missed
the podium by only one place in front of the currect RS-X Vice-Worldchampion
Przemyslaw Miarczynski (POL-126, Starboard, Neil Pryde).

The wind picked up to 15 to 17 knots and another race was run. This time it
was again Gonzalos turn. The Argentinean dominated the race an won back the
event lead. Wojtek Brzozowski scored another second place which drew the
attention of the experts on him. Przemyslaw Miarczynski scored a spectacular
third place. The current Formula Windsurfing World Champion confirmed his
performance with a fourth place. The top-5 were completed by Alberto
Menegatti.

To achieve the first discard another fourth race was run. To put the climax
to the maximum Steve Allen dominated the race and won back the event lead
again from Gonzalo Costa Hoevel who was forced to give up the race after he
capsized. After some struggling to find his form in this event the Polish
Hubert Mokrzycki (POL-25, Tabou, Gaastra) scored a sensational second place.
A third place confirmed the strong performance of Ross Williams. Andrea
Cucchi and Alberto Menegatti completed the top-5.

After four races Steve Allen is leading with a total of 3.4 points. Only one
point behind follows his biggest opponent for the racing victory at the
Allegro.pl Cup Gonzalo Costa Hoevel (4.4 points). The fight for the third
position is full on: currently three riders are ranked on even 14,0 points:
Alberto Menegatti, Ross Williams und Andrea Cucchi. Still in striking
distance are three Polish riders who hope to walk their way on a podium
place in the remaining two days: Przemyslaw Miarczynski (16,0 points),
Wojtek Brzozowski (19,0 points) and Michal Polanowski (20,0 points). The
Portuguese Champion Miguel Martino (POR-5, Starboard, Neil Pryde) wasn¹t
able to score top-5 positions. But his consistency assured his ninth place
so far. The top-10 are completed by Hubert Mokrzycki with 31,00 points.

During the lunch break the conditions continued to improve. The discipline
was changed and in 15 to 20 knots a Slalom elimination was run. Now it was
the great moment for Arnon Dagan. The Iraelian dominated the whole race and
was able to win in front of Ross Williams and Steve Allen. Gonzalo Costa
Hoevel managed to keep Michal Polanowski and Alberto Menegatti behind him.
Wilhelm Schurmann from Brasil was able to beat Wojtek Brzozowski. Kuba
Guzdek and Robby Swift complete the top-10.

The ALLEGRO.PL CUP will last until Sunday, August 5th.
