Camber Sands Freerace

Good racing at the 5th round of the UKWA Freerace…

On October 13th-14th, the fifth round of the UKWA freerace, took place at the
new venue of Camber Sands. On Saturday, there was no wind, but it was a beautiful,
hot day, so the surfers were able to chill out, after a long, hard season.

A great social took place on Saturday night, with free drink tokens up for
grabs. Sunday morning and the wind started to fill in. Sore heads were in evidence,
but some managed the fun race, then all took part in four excellent championship
races in a force three, rising to force four. The course was a figure of eight
slalom, with three laps. As the wind had started off light, everyone opted for
Formula boards. Aaran Williams was leading the gold fleet, but his board was
holed in a collision with Xavier Ferlet, who was the eventual winner.

The silver fleet results were: 1st Harry Solven, 2nd Alastair Campbell, 3rd
Jack Canning

1st Woman: Sian Harrison
1st Senior: Steve Maxted
1st Master: Jon Mobbs
1st Youth: Keith Atkinson

Bronze Fleet: 1st Amy Carter, 2nd Tim Mathews, 3rd David Norman,

1st Newcomer: Martin Wark
