SOUTHAMPTON UNIVERSITY BEGINNER FESTIVAL
Southampton University Windsurf Club recently celebrated two years of weekly beginner windsurf trips down to the Watersports Academy in Sandbanks, Poole Harbour. Every Wednesday the club takes a minibus load of students down to South coast’s piece of tropical beach for an afternoon of windsurf tuition. They’ve seen some cold weather and extremely low tides but the trips have always been a huge success and got many a beginner hooked on the sport. It has also been an opportunity for the more advanced to show off their skills and practice their instructing.
On the 14th of May 40 students and many burgers headed down to The Watersports Academy to hit the water with style. The day started out with good planning conditions but as Pimms o’clock approached the wind shifted and finally died with perfect timing to get the barbeque going. Prizes were given out to the most improved and keenest members and a tropical palm tree was given to the centre staff.
These trips have rocketed the club’s popularity and allowed people of all levels to experience the joys of windsurfing. The club has been running for 30 years and is now one of the biggest in the country.
Once again a big thanks to The Watersports Academy for helping out and letting us use their sweet kit.
