Fuerteventura Wave Classic
Feb. 28th 2009
Within a few weeks some of the world’s best windsurfers will begin an adventure beyond their expectations, in search of ideal conditions with the aim of sharing the most intense sessions of extreme waveriding… just “between friends”. No pressure!
During the winter, the “North Shore” of Fuerteventura (Canary Islands) welcomes big trains of swell coming straight from the wide of Atlantic Ocean. Ideally located for surfing and windsurfing, this part of the coast shelters some fabulous spots where come and break powerful waves that can frequently reach up to more than 4m high during this period. This is the island that we’ve chosen to host the first edition of the “Fuerteventura Wave Classic“.
Originally initiated by French pro-riders JB Caste & Thomas Traversa, the FWC is a wave contest on “waiting period”, with a dozen of Thomas and JB’s best windsurf “mates” – some among the best waveriders on the blue planet – who will compete in Canarian waves, along with some of the best hot locals… Beginning of the hostilities will start on Feb. 28th 2009, on extreme local wavespots such as Cotillo, Hierro, Majanicho or Spew Pit…
Who will then be crowned FWC Champion at the conclusion of this 1st edition? :
Mussolini – talented Spanish jumper, Guilloul – flying Moroccan, Skye – radical Brit’, Anton – the French “goblin” who’s back on stage, Porcella – great Italian rider from Maui, or maybe Köster, just 14 years old and already representing the future of radical windsurfing?
Join us & follow this battle between “friends” thanks to a “live cell” available on our blog during the event. But from now on, you can already check the latest news here on www.fuertewaveclassic.com.
