SURFERS ‘UP’ FOR BURNHAM WEEK

SURFERS ‘UP’ FOR BURNHAM WEEK

For the first time in its 100 year plus history Burnham Week 2002 is now
going to include an Open Windsurfing event. Said Burnham Week spokesman
Adrian Fluker: "There has been huge resurgence of interest in Windsurfing
on
the river over the last couple of years and last year several surfers asked

if we could accommodate them in the regatta. We decided to run the event over

the Bank Holiday Weekend with racing taking part in the late afternoon. The

Race management team are hoping to be able to set spectator friendly courses

off the quay and seawall to allow as many people as possible to watch what
we hope will be a spectacular event. We will be supplying a host of prizes
and trophies and are throwing a party for the Surfers over the weekend so we

expect the event to be well supported"

The event, which is sponsored by Skee – Tex leisure of Battlesbridge, is
being run as part of Burnham Week 2002 and will take place on the 24th, 25th

and 26th August and will be based around the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club
where launching and storage facilities have been arranged.
