Students go crazy in Cardiff

Round 2 of the SWA / Goya Wave Series saw over 50 students travel from all round the UK to the sunny shores of Porthcawl. After a long journey all competitors were greeted in the pub on Friday night for registration and a few too many warm up beers! Saturday consisted of some Turfdog action in the light breeze and a ridiculous punch-fuelled house party, followed by a night at Submission rock bar. Fancy dress was charity rave and Al Bentley provided some disturbing views with his home made mankini, tights combo. Competition day dawned and many sore heads made their way to Newton beach, side onshore 4.5m weather with some ramps provided tricky conditions for a jumping and riding competition. There was intense competition in both male and female fleets with a good variety of loops and rides from all and the final results were:

Male Fleet

1st – Steve ‘SJ’ Jarvis (4Boards/Vandal/Mormaii/SWA)

2nd – Stef Hilder (Rat Rigs/GOYA/Mormaii/SWA)

3rd – Ed Chapman

Female Fleet

1st – Sarah Bibby (Puravida/Simmer/Quatro /SWA)

2nd – Maeli Cherel (4boards/Vandal/Tabou)

3rd – Amy Carter

A massive thanks is needed for all the Cardiff committee and all sponsors involved for running another epic event and fingers crossed for wind at the final event at Portsmouth Uni early next year! Finally one sailor deserves a mention; Scott Perry (Scotty) from Plymouth Uni went out prior to the comp and dislocated his knee on a very flatly landed forward, so all of us are hoping he heals quickly!
