UK'S FIRST SURFING HOTEL OPENS ON 12TH APRIL AS BRITAIN'S SURF TREND RIDES WAVE

OF POPULARITY

The UK's first surfing hotel, Surfed Out's Little Beach Hotel, opens on Saturday

12th April. Surfed Out's Little Beach Hotel in Woolacombe, North Devon, is the

only hotel* in the UK that caters exclusively for surfers of all abilities. Owned

by 'Surfed Out', one of the UK's leading retailers of surf-wear and equipment,

in conjunction with Europe's largest surf school (over 8,000 lessons a year),

it offers all inclusive surf weekends at £139 and B&B accommodation

from £30 per person per night.

Surfing is the fastest growing sport in Europe, the British Surfing Association

estimates that 50,000 people are being introduced to the sport each year and

250,000 Britons now regularly head into the waves. Surfing's popularity amongst

women has increased substantially over the last ten years - in 1993, 80% of

people learning to surf were men, today, 60% of surfing learners are women.

The surf trend has been adopted by both Prada and Chanel on the catwalks for

this summer, and its popularity will be further fuelled by the surf chick flick

'Blue Crush' opening in the UK in April and Cameron Diaz surfing on a mission

in a barely-there bikini in 'Charlie's Angels, Full Throttle,' on release at

the end of June.

Surfed Out's Little Beach Hotel launches on a wave of success that sees it's

young entrepreneur owners already riding high. Devon surf fans will have heard

of the four Surfed Out surf shops in Braunton and Saunton, which have brought

founder and local surfer, Justin Hillyer, and ex-army co-owner and surfer, Alex

Liddle, great success in the space of just six years. Their big break arrived

as they were awarded a £5,000 grant from the Prince's Trust to start a

surfing school at Croyde. Now, the team are able to offer a complete package

for surfers: accommodation, surf hire, tuition and shops all set in a prime

area known for its waves.

Surfed Out's' Little Beach Hotel is situated on The Esplanade at Woolacombe

overlooking Woolacombe beach. There are eleven double, twin and triple rooms

with ensuite bathrooms, plus a self-contained flat for six. The views from the

bar and restaurant overlooking Woolacombe beach are stunning. The hotel offers

a list of services including surfboard storage, wet suit drying room, board

repair service and a sports massage therapist, plus flexible meal times with

a specially designed menu.

Anyone thinking the hotel will just suit experienced surfers is mistaken:

Surfed Out owner, Alex Liddle, says, "We opened the hotel to give British

surfers what they have been asking for all along - a one-stop destination of

surfing paradise. But our aim is to welcome anyone with a passion for the beach

who is looking for a holiday with a difference. We offer lessons for beginners,

and a great night life!"

Surfed Out is celebrating the launch of the UK's first surfing hotel by sponsoring

a weekend of surf competitions on 12 and 13 April, and launch party on Saturday

12th. The Surfed Out surf competition is a series of heats at multi-levels,

held right outside Surfed Out's Little Beach Hotel windows. Free surfing lessons

will be available for anyone who wishes to give it a go! The launch party is

sponsored by Bear surfboards and apparel, with free beer from the St Austell

Brewery. Chris "Guts" Griffiths, professional surfer and European

Longboarding Champion (The surf expert who starred in Channel 4's 'Faking It'

series), will be on hand to offer advice to intermediate surfers, along-side

a gathering of the surf industry's finest helping to celebrate.
