OCS LAUNCHES SEARCH FOR TOP UK YOUNG SPORTSPERSON
Leading property support services company, OCS, has launched its search for the 2004 OCS Young Sportsperson of the Year, confirming its continued commitment to driving up standards in all areas of British sport.
The competition, which is now in its seventh year, is the most prestigious sports awards for youngsters still at school and college, and offers sponsorship in excess of £30,000 to winners of one disabled and eight regional categories.
The winner of each category this year will receive a cash prize of £2,500 and the overall national winner will benefit from an additional £3,000 cash, plus sponsorship of £5,000 for the year.
Chris Cracknell, Chief Executive of OCS says: "OCS is committed to supporting young people who have the determination and talent to become some of the United Kingdom's sporting stars of the future, which is why we launched OCS Young Sportsperson of the Year in 1998.
"Previous winners, such as gymnast Beth Tweddle and swimmer Todd Cooper, have gone on to win some major competitions in their fields and I'm sure that the winners of this year's competition will be just as successful. It is enormously satisfying to be part of such an important event and I'm very much looking forward to meeting our top young sportspeople later this year."
Entries are welcomed from anyone with a special talent for any sport who will be under 18 on 1st September 2004. Regional awards will be presented in the following areas: Scotland; North East; North West; Midlands & East Anglia; Northern Ireland; Wales; South West; London & South East.
In addition to the cash prizes to winners, an award of £2,500 will be made to the school, college or club of the overall winner for the sole purpose of purchasing sports equipment.
