Amy Carter, editor of Boards and promoter of women’s windsurfing in the UK, is taking on a new challenge and in aid of a great cause.

On the 31st March Amy Carter will set out on a physically challenging trek through some of the world’s most inspiring landscape with the aim of reaching Everest Base Camp, whilst raising money for a very special cause close to her heart.

Planned only a few weeks ago the trek will begin in Lukla and take 20 days, with up to seven hours of trekking per day, including a two night stay at base camp itself.

Whilst the initial idea for the trek was for the pure adventure, Amy decided combine the trip with a worthwhile cause. Many do similar treks for big charity organisations, however Amy wanted to be more involved with the money raised and physically see how it is being used to help others.

Meadow Wood is a primary school for children with physical and neurological impairments, which focuses on enabling children to learn and achieve within a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum. Having previously worked and volunteered at Meadow Wood, Amy saw the trek as the perfect opportunity to give something back to the children.

So a plan was formed; Meadow Wood are in need of £10,000 to put towards a new mini bus which will enable the children to get out and about on exciting trips with much more ease. Amy aims to help the school raise as much of this total as possible through her trek, as well as getting the children involved in the journey by plotting her journey, learning about the mountains and even decorating a scarf to keep her warm on the trip!

Although sporty and adventurous by nature Amy has not embarked on a challenge of this sort before:

“I’ve always thought about doing something like this before and although I think I’ll be ok on the fitness side of things, as the trek draws closer I am excited and anxious in equal measures! To me the fact that I can now help the children at Meadow Wood through the expedition now makes it even more exciting, any support that anyone can provide is really, really appreciated.”
