BWA Cornwall – Williams Crowned Champion

In spite of being unable to make the whole weekend Ross Williams has taken the victory at the final stop of the British Wavesailing Association tour. As a result he finished with enough points to take the top spot in the overall rankings and earn himself the BWA title in the pro bracket.

We caught up with Ross for a few quick words…

Boards: Congrats on the result you must be pretty happy with this?

RW: Yeah absolutely, I’m really stoked with this. I had a bit of luck coming in to the event as I wasn’t really planning to go because of the Boardwise Demo weekend that I needed to be at. However the forecast came up and it looked super good for Friday and not so much on Saturday and Sunday, it looked quite likely that there would be no competition on the weekend actually, so I charged down to Gwithian and entered then straight on up to the Boardwise demo on Saturday morning.

Boards: We saw some of the pics right after, conditions looked epic?

RW: Yeah totally, it was firing, a bit light but the sets were coming through and we had some huge punty aerial sections. Sometimes you got caught out on the inside for a few minutes whilst a series of sets came through but it was always worth waiting as the waves were really awesome.

Boards: How about your gear set-up?

RW: Yeah it was light winds so I needed my biggest gear to float out and have the chance to catch the waves as early as possible, I was on 5.7 and my 86l.

Boards: Cool, thanks Ross and congrats, you must be a pretty happy man with this final result as the overall tour winner?

RW: Of course, being British Wave Champion is epic, I’m extremely stoked but even more happy to just score really great waves during the last month or so. Straight after Tiree myself and Jamie Hancock made a trip to the Isle of Lewis and we had amazing conditions there as well, it’s just what I like in the end, that’s what it is all about.

Good friday! Won the Cornwall wave classic single elimination in some of best conditions for a while!!! #tabouwindsurfing #gasails #teamgaastra #beinspired #mysticboarding #incontrol
