BWA Rhosneigr 2011 – The Story So Far…

Max Rowe reports from Rhosneigr on the first round of British Wavesailing Association competition…

BWA Rhosneigr 2011

After an epic road trip back from the PWA freestyle event in Austria, feeling pretty stoked with my 9th place we have made it to Rhosneigr, Wales for the first BWA wave event of the season.

The last few days have been pretty chilled out and we are just praying that the wind for tomorrow will be as good as promised. Even though the wind has been lacking there has still been a bit of swell pumping through which has provided some awesome Sup conditions.

Last night we all headed to Llandudno dry ski slope for a bit of a social followed by a go on the dry ski slope, which was pretty entertaining. A few people were a bit cautious about injuring themselves before the competition but all those worries disappeared quickly once everyone was on the slope trying to out do each other! The American contingent to the tour Bryan Metcalfe-Perez US-505 shone out from the others by throwing down some insane moves on the ramps and slider. A few of us took the social on to Bangor for a banging night out as we knew there was more of the same forecast for today.

It could be due to the previous night out in Bangor that some of the guys thought they would do a bit of tow-in surfing this morning. Their excitement was short lived after George Shillito suffered rope burn getting towed into a knee high wave that he proceeded to roll off the back of.

The conditions for tomorrow are looking like we should get some cross-shore winds from the left with the swell increasing. With both the pro and amateur fleets fully subscribed it should make for an awesome day of competition.
