WEYMOUTH SPEED RECORD BROKEN

Weymouth Speed Record Broken

The 36 knot speed record for a sailing craft in Weymouth Harbour set by Crossbow II back in the 1980s has finally been broken, but it took a 13 times World Champion to do it. On Tuesday at 3.21pm Bjorn Dunkerbeck sailed down the course at 36.19 knots on a 6.7 Pryde sail and 53cm wide Thommen slalom board. Dan Ellis was the second fastest (33.4 knots) and all the kitesurfers and exotic boats were unable to compete with the speeds attainted by the windsurfers.
