21-27/10/01 Fortalezza - Brazil

The final day of racing in Fortalezza Brazil saw the world cup racing fraternity

re-establish themselves at the front of the board in the Formula Windsurfing

World Championships, and in particular, Kevin Pritchard produce one of his best

ever performances as a racer. The first half of the championships had been dominated

by the big Polish sailor Wojtek Brozowski, but Kevin just kept plugging away,

building up a good series. By the last race he still had some work to do, he'd

fought his way up to second but was still behind Antoine Albeau. But he gave

it everything he had, and won the race, to win the overall title.

Kevin comments after coming to the beach, " I am totally stoked with

this win, after 15 races my consistency has paid off

and the performance of my Bic Sport FW1.3 has been essential. It was close racing

down to the end !”

Kevin's performance also ends the seeming stranglehold that Starboard have

had on the Formula Windsurfing series. He was racing on the Bic FW1.3, which

many had said just wasn't fast enough in the more marginal conditions. But KP

won the lightest wind race of the entire week on his Bic, and was able to lead

the fleet from 10 to 20 knots of wind. However, his sheer racing skill and persistence

also played a major part!

"Kevin on his Bic Sport FW1.3 sailed an incredible event and on the

last race was able to capture the World Championship title. It was a very dramatic

finish and perhaps the best performance that I have ever seen." said

Jimmy Diaz/Bic Sport rider.
