Yet more wind on the final day in Cadiz…
The 2012 RS:X Windsurfing World Championships will be remembered as not only one of the windiest RS:X events, but perhaps one of the windiest windsurfing events ever! With winds regularly breaking 45 knots, the fleets with their 9.5 and 8.5 metre sails were forced to seek shelter on several days over the course of the event.
The UK’s Nick Dempsey had powered his way into second place by Day 5. Nick had just two points separating him from Julien Bontemps in first, with the medal race still to go. With the gold so close, GBR-1 was at the mercy of the elements as the final two days in Cadiz were too windy to compete.
Congratulations to Nick on scooping the silver and to Bryony Shaw who came in fourth place in the ladies’ fleet.
