European Funboard Expression 2010

A short resume from the European Funboard Expression 2010

Euro Funboard Expression 2010 - Cedric Bordes

This contest was launched last year on the shores of Six Fours (South France), and from a natioanl wave & freestyle contest, it has became a European stage due to the fact that this year’s event included the European Freestyle Pro Kids Tour (EFPkT) final.
The EFE 2010 is a very complete event organized by the local windsurf club SFWO. It includes :

  • A European Freestyle pro/am contest for kids under 20 (EFPkT)
  • A National Freestyle pro/am contest for all
  • A National Wave pro/am contest for all

This year, from 10-14 of November, the contest gathered more than 55 competitors coming from all over France but also a great bunch of Italians as well as riders coming from Holland and Germany. 25 registered for freestyle (13 for EFPkT), and 56 for both wave & freestyle disciplines.

We were again very Lucky this year as the local wind, the Mistral, started to blow from the first day with a solid 25/30 knots, and did not stop for 2 days. It was a super timing and 2 double eliminations in Freestyle could have been launched from the start! The choppy waters of Le Brusc did not help that much the foreign riders, not very used to rough spots like this !

EFPkT : Tough time for the kids !
Even though the local spot was a bit tough for freestyle with gusty winds and big chop, Tim Ruyssenars from Nederlands could manage to reach the 1st place in the under 17 category in front of the local kid Mercader. It was also good to see a kid like the young local Lesauvage, just 10 years old, evolving alongside the other freestylers…
In the under 20 category, the italian champion Fabrizzi had to beat by two times the hot local Bosson to reach the 1st place. The duel was epic and the show explosive ! The public enjoyed as the action was very close to the beach of Le Cros.

National Freestyle : Bosson on top !
In tough conditions again, many freestylers battled for the national title and once again, Bosson had to fight hard against the italians to come up to the finals. In the single, Bosson won a first time against the local Canepa and Bestetti. In the double, Amsellem from Leucate did a super nice come back but failed against Canepa. This double elimination then showed again an explosive final with Bosson battling against Bestetti, definitely on form. Bosson striked again to reach the 1st place and the « National Funboard Expression » freestyle title.

National Wave : Viande win against Bosson !
Conditions were not the best even though we were expecting a perfect forecast. Some waves and a 15/20 knots breeze allowed more than 50 riders to fight for the « National Funboard Expression » wave title. This became a locals’ affair from the semi-finals with the hot local from La Coudoulière, Viande, fighting against Bosson as easy in the waves as in freestyle, and Ben Légier fighting against the french slalom champion Bordes. Finally, thanks to some clean loops launched in his last final heat, Viande win against Bosson who was missing a jump.
The girls’ category saw the victory of young ripper from l’Almanarre Aubet against the local from Marseille Joly.

The event is not over yet as there’s no wind today. A small break is welcome after 3 days of non stop action here in Six Fours, and tomorrow’s forecast looks not too bad for another freestyle session on perfect flat water as the wind should blow from the East, totally offshore.

This could be a simple demo, but this would be the cherry on the cake for the local organization !
