Datchet Watersports are looking forward to building on the success of their 2009 windsurfing season which saw a huge increase in members and regular users. Chief Instructor and RYA Windsurfing Trainer, Tim Fraser-Harris remembers last year: “It was great to see so many of our regular windsurfers progressing quickly, as well as many new people getting into the sport. We’ve got a really good, friendly group of windsurfers coming down to make use of their unlimited kit-hire at least once a week (more when it’s windy!). We also had a whole rabble of kids get hooked on windsurfing on courses over the summer, and we had a few of them planing about on 122L Starboard Futuras & 3.5m Tushingham Dinos after only 10 days or so of windsurfing!!” On one extremely windy F5 day when we were running alternative activities for most of our groups, 11 year-old John Salisbury turned to his instructor and asked if he could “Give it a go?”. James McNaughton recalls, “It was an onshore breeze, and we were able to supervise him closely so we set him up with a HiFly Matrix and a 2.7m Dino and set him off! We didn’t expect him to even get off the ‘beach’, let alone blast around controlling the gusts and even making progress upwind!” It just goes to show, with the right conditions, kit and instruction, kids can learn incredibly quickly.
