Whilst Nick Dempsey and Bryony Shaw took medals the the recent RS:X World Champs, up coming sailors (surely next in line to follow in the footsteps of Nick and Bryony?) including Izzy Hamilton also produced some fantastic results, showing they have what it takes to reach the top too. Izzy’s shared her thoughts upon returning from Brazil, you can check out more updates from Izzy on her blog here.
After a month of training in Brazil in the cross on trade winds and rolling waves as the event approached typically the wind changed to light offshore wind. We had a 5 day regatta. In the end half of the races we raced off the plane and half on the plane. The most varied worlds I have ever raced and showed the best all round performers. I finished 15th. A result I am super happy with as this qualifies me for the Olympic Performance Team. In the Cadiz Worlds 2012 I was 17th so it was also an improvement on this! After all the time I spent learning to kite I was happy that I hadn’t lost out to much! I even had a 4th and several other top 10 results which shows that in my best conditions I can do well, just need to spend some more time and gain more experience in my weakest conditions.
