JP/NP Young Gun Camp Prasonisi – day 6

It’s race day at the 2010 JP/NP Young Gun Camp on Prasonisi, Rhodes. And here’s the report from the Pro Center

Friday – Day 6 of the JP / NP Young Gun Camp 2010

This day is competition day! Everybody is really excited – after all one might win a complete surf gear by JP Australia and NeilPryde. Group photos, a final tuning of the kit, brief consultations and final tips from the coaches and there we go – we can already hear the signal for the first heat . The wind is great and the judges have seperated the Young Guns into three different groups – the very young ones, girls and guys! The youngest opened the competition and showed us what they had learnt – incredible what kind of moneuvres they already land. At the end Vladimir Mojaev (12 years) from Russia came first followed by Viktor Podstavek (8 years and our youngest camp participant) – from Slovakia and Ivan Parushkin (14 years) from Russia.

Right after that it was the girls’ turn. The wind picked up even a little more and the girls put on an amazing show! For sure, the boys will have to make a great effort to outperfom that. After a very close final heat 15 year old Viktoria Als claimed victory ahead of Emma Labourne (13 years) from the UK and Julia Mutschlechner (12 years) from Italy.

And finally the boys’ group kicked off! From the very beginning we realized that it will be a hard battle. The level of the kids is really amazing and the competition pushed the boys even more to show what they know. After a breath-taking semi final and final heat Marco Luven took home the title of this year’s Young Gun Camp just ahead of Julian Wiemar (13 years) and Valentin Böckler (18 years) as well as Dominik Enting (18 years) – all of them from Germany!

The tension from the competition was still visible on the kids’ faces and so we all went for our well-deserved lunch break before heading out again to the beach for more freestyle training in the afternoon. The results of the competition were yet kept top secret and you cannot imagine how curious the kids were to learn about their results. And when we held the award ceremony in the Lighthouse Taverna in the evening the air was filled with voices of the cheering crowd. Now it was party time and we all went for a barbecue to the Pro Center on the beach where we finished off the evening with music, souvlaki and drinks. http://mpora.com/videos/Uyw8cKk23
