ARUBA HIGH WINDS – DAY 3

The winds took a respite today, the second day of slalom and kite surf
competition here at scenic Fisherman’s Huts. Event organizers postponed
heats hoping for a few more knots to freshen the race course. During the
wait, sailors traded stories, practiced light wind freestyle or in some
cases tuned newly arrived gear. Realwind rider, Clay Emer from Bonaire
just acquired a brand new board shipped to Aruba specifically for the
event. Clay, the star rider for this Gorge based company is making the
event circuit having been to Midwinter’s in Florida, King of the Cape in
Massachusetts this past Spring. After Hi Winds he is off to the US West
Coast event, The Gorge Games. Hi Winds is a perfect venue to hone is
skills as he travels onward representing his island.

Videotographer Tovi Rees flew overhead in a high powered helicopter
capturing the spectacular colors and sites from overhead. After a lunch
compliments of Bread Boutique, races were abandoned due to lack of wind.
Everyone is heading to Boca Grandi for the high adrenaline kite
competition. Jeroen Roevros from Holland is leading the pack after
yesterday’s contest. In the sport division, J.P van den Erenbeemt is ahead
showing that not only can he run a phenomenal event, he can kite as well.

This weekend is expected to be action packed with the King, Queen, Prince
and Kids of the huts competition. Action starts at 10:00 AM with kiting
and the crowd favorite freestyle competition. The BULA bikini show is
slated for 2:00 PM. The place to be this weekend is world famous
Fisherman’s Huts here on sunny Aruba.
