Students Gear Up For Rhosneigr

On the 24-25th January the legendary Rhosneigr beach will host the second round of the Puravida SWA Wave Series.

After a great first event in Cornwall things are shaping up nicely for Louis Morris (Bristol), who will be looking to capitalise on his current lead. Hot on his heels is Matt Cox (Plymouth) who will be trying to get a win and push for control of the series. Completing the top four from the first event were Southampton Uni’s Jamie Oaten and Leo Calnan, good results in Rhosneigr for them would keep the pressure on Louis and Matt and keep their hopes of a podium finish alive.

In the Ladies it is SWA veteran Jo Wright who leads after the first event. She will want to follow up her current result with another solid placing to cement her position at the top. However there are rumours of an appearance by BWA regular Sara Kellet. With jumps like forward loops in the bag and powerful riding to back it up Sara could be a real problem for anyone as on the SWA men and women compete together in the same fleet.

For the men there are a few sailors who missed the first event who although being unable to place well overall could be something to worry the tour leaders. The first is soul surfing Bangor local Tom Bennett Lloyd. Tom is not someone who likes to be constrained by competitions and schedules but if he does make an appearance he is more than capable of an event win at his local spot. After missing the first event due to injury, Ben Page (Southampton) looks to be back on the water for the last two competitions. A previous series and Rhosneigr event winner Ben will be another to watch out for.

Can Louis take another win and control the title race? Will Matt steal it from him? Could a wildcard like Sarah or Tom steal the show? Or will sailors like Dan Lytton and John Hamilton avenge their premature exits from the first event?

Whatever happens things should shape up nicely for an explosive end to the season on the mysterious beaches of south wales for the finale of the 2015 Puravida SWA Wave Series in Cardiff on 7-8th February. Watch this space!
