The tradition of ‘Brits’, or rather UK based riders, heading across to America to take part in the AWT continues this year as Dan Macaulay journey’s to the first event in Santa Cruz.
Sailors are registered and SUPs are on the water as they wait for wind. More to come soon with Dan’s inside view of the event and why he decided to head to Santa Cruz…
Windsurfing stars past, present and future descended on Santa Cruz last night to register for the ‘Santa Cruz Goya Windsurfing Festival’ – the first stop on the 2014 AWT tour (competitor list below).
Goya have put up $10,000 prize money for the event and Francisco Goya and the full Goya team were super busy helping everyone unpack their gear and get set for the contest.
The event registration took place at the Davenport Surf & Sail windsurfing museum and competitors were treated to elk and antelope burgers on the BBQ. The evening also saw the premier of ‘Girls want to get wet’ a short movie about girls windsurfing.
The forecast for the competition looks good with wind predicted to blow from the North West; the best direction for Waddell Creek. The strength or the winds depends heavily on a local thermal effect – clear skies means strong winds. Hopefully the Nor Cal fog will hold off over the next few days and give us the conditions we came here for.
