The Speed Challenge!

The Windsurf Club up in Newburgh, Scotland brought together some youngsters, fresh to the sport of windsurfing for an all out speed challenge this weekend!

Newburgh speed challenge!

“The much anticipated speed challenge was held at the weekend, and it was a great success – smiles all round and really positive feedback. The wind was NW and forecast to be about 15mph which was perfect for the quickly progressing wind-smurfers to push their limits without being too overpowered. The group was split into two categories – the more experienced and the newer ones – and over the 2 hours everyone managed to get a few runs in with the GPS device. One run broke the 10mph mark but the ” Regional Windsurf Club International Speed Race Federation for Whipper-Snappers” demanded they had a second run, yet still achieving first place!

“Perfectly timed with the prize-giving, it started rain hard – unfortunate timing indeed! Despite a few soggy certificates, our spirits weren’t dampened and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. We covered some theory from the RYA junior scheme on land too during the session, marking a successful 5th session for the club. Although it was relatively gusty, there was a good crowd of local salty-dogs and new faces out on big kit. We’d like to say a big thanks to all the participants, parents, spectators and of course Synergy Watersports & Tushingham who donated prizes for the event.
