Day two here in Tiree has come to a close with the single elimination almost completed for the pro men, with Adam Lewis, Ben Proffitt, Andy Chambers and Ross Williams left to battle it out for the top four places.

It was straight over to the Maze this morning where the riders were met with around waist high waves a light, port tack winds. After some contemplation a couple of the riders took to the water to test the conditions - Adam Lewis and James Cox jumping in first. It still looked debatable, but competition got underway and despite the light winds and relatively small waves it was still clear to the judges who had the edge in the heats so competition continued.

It looked tricky to get onto the waves and then score a really got top turn, but those that could do this and show good aggression still were the ones that advanced. The contest ran all day through until around 4.30 when the wind switched and the high tide pushed the waves down even more. Competition was finally abandoned during the Lewis/Proffitt semi-final. There were thoughts of heading to Balevullin, but unfortunately the conditions didn't look any better over there so the day had to end with two more heats to run.

This leaves Adam Lewis and Ben Proffitt in a less-than-ideal position as it looks more likely the pro fleet will be completed later in the week and these two will be leaving on Tuesday evening for the PWA in France. But, this leaves the competition wide open for the others and could really mix up the title race.

Results:

9a - Hart beat Dixon. Both scored some good rides, but Hart looked to get the more set waves through the heat.

10a - Cox beat Kirkham. Cox wins with a solid performance.

12a - Williams beat Archer. Williams showed consistency picking up wave after wave, even in the tricky conditions.

13a - Lewis beat Hart. Lewis looked on a mission showing a lot of aggression!

13b - Proffitt beat Cox. Proffitt again showed why he is one to beat in these conditions, even scoring a taka!

14a - Chambers beat D. Horrocks. A close hear but Chambers progresses with some great turns.

14b - Williams beat P. Horrocks. Highest scoring heat of the day and a split decision. Both riders performing exceptionally in the conditions, although Horrocks clearly thought Williams had taken the win as he stayed out sailing after the heat!

15a - Proffitt vs Lewis - to sail.

15b - Williams vs Chambers - to sail.

It is day two here at the Tiree Wave Classic and it looks like we could have some competition up and running. Last night saw a great opening ceremony, but now it is down to business with skippers meeting called for 10.30 at the Maze, with a first possible start of 11.00. This is for the pro competition only as today is registration this afternoon for all other fleets. The wind is looking relatively light, but hopefully the bit of swell around will provide enough to get underway.
