All the latest from the NWF Team, about what’s on offer for junior competitors at this year’s National Watersports Festival on 4th – 6th September 2015.
BSA Turbo 15 – NWF Junior Windsurfing Formation Flyers (under 16 year olds).
Following on from previous years, NWF once again embrace the future of the sport with this fleet of turbo charged ‘groms’ participating in their own fleet, separate to the main procession.
The emphasis is on fun for all involved, with participation more important than positions in each race. The format is simple, with a beach start, and simple one buoy ‘there and back’ course and finish with a sprint up the beach cheered on by the crowds.
There will also be loads of clinics going on during the course of the weekend, with gurus and pro-riders offering tips and advice a plenty, plus of course you’ll have the chance to cheer on the old’s as they try to emulate your racing skills throughout both days, although traditionally on Sunday they seem slightly slower for some reason.
Saturday night is the floodlit action, a highlight for many. If racing out to sea in the dark, suitably adorned with glowsticks, as a tag team relay racer with your own pro-rider making up your team, then this is a ‘must do’ event …… and once you’ve done racing, it’ll be into the party.
If your family windsurf then this is a must enter family event, if they don’t then its a must enter event to get your family into watersports, as while you show off your pace in the race, there will be demo and taster sessions with lots of retail therapy opportunities to keep families occupied.
So, race format … there and back, don’t forget the pebbles are a factor in the running aspect … booties might give you a runners advantage … races are scheduled and run at the advertised times, we don’t get leaves on the line at NWF. Each race counts individually as well as accruing for an overall weekend placing.
It’s all about fun, come to enjoy the whole weekend experience, it’ll go straight in your ‘must do’ pile for the next one thats for sure. Bring a smile and your windsurfing kit and prepare to be NWF’d. More info and online entry can be found at www.nationalwatersportsfestival.com
See ya there
