Windsurfing Euro-Cup 2004 FW Grand Prix Rhodes

Day 1- Ross Williams is leading after 4 races

Today was the first competition day of the Formula Windsurfing Grand Prix
on Rhodes. The perfect conditions enabled the race committee to run 4
excellent races. After the first day Ross Williams (GBR-83) from Great
Britain is leading.

The first good news reached the competitors already at the Skippers
Meeting at 12:00. The representative of the mayor of Ialisos Mr. Stergios
Stagas informed the competitors that they will be given free accommodation
for the event. This great geture of the town hall and the Forum Beach
Hotel was welcomed by a warm applause from the competitors.

At 12:30 the race director Bruno de Wannemaker started the first official
race of The Rhodes Windsurfing Grand Prix 2004 organised by RWA. The
perfect conditions in fron of the Forum Beach Hotel on Ialisos Beach
Rhodes the race committee to set up a spectacular Butterfly-Course. The
inside marks were so close to the beach that the spectators could almost
touch the competitors when they jibed.

The opening race was won by Ross Williams (GBR-83, Starboard, Gaastra)
from Great Britain in front of Devon Boulon (ISV-1, F2, Windwing) from the
Virgin Islands and Jesper Vesterstrom (DEN-111, Starboard, Neil Pryde)
from Denmark. In the second race Devon Boulon was able to strike back and
won in front of Andrea Cucchi (ITA-1, Starboard, Neil Pryde) and Ross
Williams. The third race went again to the young British hot shot Ross
Williams in front of the “Italian Stallion” Andrea Cucchi and Arnon Dagan
(ISR-1, Fanatic, Neil Pryde) from Israel. In the fourth and final race of
the day Ross Williams was able to extend his lead with another victory.
The second place went to Jesper Vesterstrom in fron of his Danish team
mate Brian Roegild (DEN-173, Starboard, Neil Pryde).

After the first day of the Formula Windsurfing Grand Prix Rhodes and four
races with one discard Ross Williams is leading with the optimum of 2,1
points. Devon Boulon holds the second position with 7,7 points but has
Andrea Cucchi directly on his heals (8,0 points). On the following
positions we can find 4. Jesper Vesterstrom (14,0), 5. Brian Roegild
(19,0), 6. Arnon Dagan (19,0), 7. Marco Begalli (20,0), 8. Pawel Hlawati
(23,0), 9. Jamie Lever (24,0) and 10. Davide Beverino (29,0).

The event is broadcasted live on the internet. So you can follow the whole

speed and webcam impressions from the beach. The Formula Windsurfing Grand
