The wind arrives for the PWA

Late afternoon sees the wind finally arrive at Reggio Calabria…

After four frustrating days on standby, the PWA Slalom fleets burst into action late yesterday afternoon as the wind finally arrived.

Karin Jaggi flys over the line to take the win in the first elimination

The Ladies fleet was the first to hit the water, with top seed Karin Jaggi putting her years of experience to use to take the win comfortably. Fighting for second place were Turkish sailor Lena Erdil and Alice Arutkin from France. Erdil’s higher top speed meant she took the silver in the winners final. Laura Linares, who won the first heat of the year, couldn’t repeat her performance and finished in 8th position.

In the men’s fleet, the names advancing to the winner’s final are Antoine Albeau, Peter Volwater, Jimmy Diaz and Alberto Menegati. The likes of Dunkerbeck, Angulo and Costa Hoevel all have the potential to join the medal race if the wind returns today. Shock early exits included Cyril Moussilmani and Micah Buzianis, with Buzianis colliding with an object in the water to dash his chances.
