Over the windy Easter weekend, not ONE, but TWO Xpression Sessions were held in UK waters, with over 25 top UK freestylers traveling to rip up Portland Harbour on Friday and West Kirby on Monday!
Friday’s Session started early to catch the best of the wind and tide, with full power 3.7 weather testing the competitors’ freestyle abilities. Twelve sailors sailed hard all day, in tricky conditions. Alex Mitchell, aged 16 (Puravida Boardriders) comments about Xpression: “It’s a sick idea, everywhere you look people are doing tricks, which pushes us and motivates us!” With the wind constantly up and down, running a fair competition proved too difficult unfortunately, but everyone still had an amazing time, learnt loads and went away stoked.
With everyone just warming up from Friday’s long Xpression Session we couldn’t resist the amazing Kirby forecast that was lining up for Easter Monday – Xpression 3: West Kirby was on! Arriving at the lake with not much wind it soon filled in and before we knew it it was 4.7 weather, south / south-westerly. We sailed from the south end of the lake and although the wind was quite gusty it proved to be a great three-hour session!
Also sailing at the south end of the lake were Bubble and Colin ‘Whippy’ Dixon running a Jedi Windsurfing Clinic, witch also had a great turnout of about 12 very young keen freestylers busting out their moves.
All in all it was a great day, great seeing so much freestyle on the water between Xpression and Jedi Windsurfing.
