Team15 – “take two” at Covenham – Sunday 31st August
For the second time this summer, young windsurfers from all over the North of England will collect at Covenham Reservoir (between Grimsby and Louth) this weekend to take part in the RYA Team 15 Championship 2008.
The fleet will collect at Covenham Sailing and Windsurfing Club – just off the A16 on Sunday 31st August.
A favourite venue and one of the most successful windsurfing clubs in the north of England, Covenham Sailing and Windsurfing Club will host the third round of this year’s Team15 event.
The hotly contested championship is for young windsurfers under the age of 16 to show their skills against each other and to win points for their club. There are four events in the north this year; the first was at North Lincs & Humberside Sailing Club in June, the second event was at Covenham in July and the final event in the regional competition is at Pugneys Sailing Centre, Wakefield on 21st September. The club with the most points at the end of the series becomes the North Zone Team 15 Champion Club and goes on to compete with all the other regional winners to become Team 15 UK Champion Club 2008.
The current North Zone Team 15 Champions are the Covenham Cyclones and the event on Saturday is their opportunity to stave off the challengers for the 2008 title.
There will be plenty of action and photographic opportunities on and by the water.
For more details and to gain access to the club please call Derrick Hall at Covenham Sailing & Windsurfing Club on 07795 397874 or email [email protected]
A report will be emailed out after the event but any reporters/photographers/camera crews visiting the event should contact Derrick above.
Supported by industry leaders Neilson, Tushingham/Starboard, Ultra Sport/Bic, Windsurf magazine, Boards magazine and Neil Pryde, T15 was set up by the RYA to provide youngsters, up to the age of 15, with the opportunity to learn all about windsurfing and improve their skills in a friendly club environment. Weekly training sessions take place at RYA approved centres and clubs and are run by RYA trained instructors and T15 coaches. All safety aspects are taken care of and equipment can be provided to children who don’t have their own kit yet.
